This nice vintage 8 ft bamboo fly rod was produced by Fred Divine of Utica, NY. It is a 3 section rod plus extra mirror tip. It has been professionally refinished about 3 years ago and never fished since and kept in a controlled environment with the rest of my collection. The cane is a medium-light honey and the varnish is smooth and glassy, solid, not tacky. All 4 sections are the correct and same length with no hurts. The wraps are a green jasper and there is crimson red tipping at either end of each section’s wraps. The snake guides and tiptop guides have been replaced in black, there is a hanging ring hook-keeper and the wraps form the winding check as they run from the swelled butt on over the end of the cigar shaped cork grip. Across the swelled butt flats is script that reads The Divine Rod Rainbow. I am not certain that this is original and may have been placed by the craftsman who refinished the rod before it came to me, but it is none the less attractive and I believe it is accurate. The reel seat is the famous red cherry wooden style found on many Divine rods and has a blackened sliding band and fixed butt cap to hold the reel. The butt cap is engraved with serial number R 1859. The delicate nickel silver ferrules are Divine style with soldered welt and witness mark. One male ferrule on the second tip is a replacement and it fits perfectly. All ferrules fit together tightly with no This is a very light rod of only 3 3/4th ounces and would be considered light trout and will handle a 3-4 wt. DT modern fly line. From what I have discovered about Divine Rods, this one was probably made around 1920. Comes with a vintage but non-original olive rod sock and hard storage case.
