20/5312-183 FREDERICK VON LUERZER (1858-1917) ARAB GENTLEMEN ON HORSEBACK. Oil on canvas, signed LR 28` x 48` $2,000/$4,000 Condition: Overall condition if fair. Has been cleaned and relined. Has been varnished too. Evidence of inpainting to the following areas: to a visible 3` vertical restored tear to upper-middle sky. Two more additional spots of inpainting include a 1` and a o.75` spots found to the mid-left of the sky. Furthermore, evidnce of older inpainting covers a 2`x15` strip across the foreground, without ever affecting any of the figures or horses. Evidence of discoloration is found in the form of a 2` stain along the upper-right edge. Also, a residue from the gilt used to paint the frame is found in the form of a 3` diagonal streak across the upper-right corner, as well as to an adjacent 0.75` spot. No craquelure or chipping to the pigment. Minimal rubbing against the frame yielded minimal loss to pigment on the very far edges, but nothing taht is too distracting from the overall aesthetic appeal of the piece. No labels en verso. In a giltwood frame.
