This is a 2 volume set of books, finely bound in ornate coverings with gold gilt on all 3 page ends, the endpapers are nicely marbled !!. Lots of illustrations in full page color plates, B&W plates, in-line drawings, etc. 913 pp. Volume I has a B&W full page glossy photo of Albert MacKey followed by a tissue guarded full page color frontispiece of The Three Graces. Volume II has a B&W full page glossy photo of William Hughan followed by a tissue guarded full page color frontispiece of The Four Cardinal Virtues. FIRST EDITION THUS !!! Virtually the only flaw is the gold gilt on spine is faded. If not for the faded spines I would list this set as fine. This is a rare find in such good condition...... is your chance to own an authentic piece of Masonic history at a reasonable price. These books are an excellent investment as market prices continue to go up and these books are sure to keep appreciating in value. Get them while you can!!! This set is absolutely wonderful ! Each volume is richly tooled and embossed, with elaborately blind stamped medallions on the front boards. Gilt designwork and printing on the spines with mason symbols and the all seeing eye. The front boards are bordered by a richly done colored stamped embossing of masonic symbols. We had this set professionally restored at a book bindery. It was Re-glued, Re-hinged, has beautiful new endpapers. The set is now very strong & tight, ready to serve for generations to come. The page ends are in full gilt on all three sides, the bindings are strong, the pages are crisp and bright with no writing. The full color plates are bright and intact, minor shelfwear to the top and bottom of spines. The gold gilt on the spines is faded. The textblocks are virtually immaculate, The pages are clean, white, no tears or rips, no foxing or soiling evident. T is a tiny stamped name of a former owner in volume II, otherwise, T IS NO WRITING or marking of any kind in this set!!!! The corners are straight and true, no "leaning" to spines, no foxing on pages. Each Book is a whopping 10-1/4" tall by 7-1/4" wide by 2-1/8" thick !! They are very heavy and the boards are thick and heavy, made to last for generations to come. T is a total of 913 pages !! is your chance to own a piece of history, The most complete, Authorative, all encompassing history of the Freemasons ever written !! These books would be a great addition to any library and an outstanding one at that. This Set is in very good condition, with minimal wear. All pages and plates are present, no cracking- nothing is loose or coming loose, a very solid set!!
