I think I have correctly identified this French Model 1837Naval Officerâe(tm)s sword correctly. It is listed in WORLD SWORDS 1400 âe" 1945 , by Harvey J. S. Withers, on page 254, the entire page. The brass guard is beautifully decorated. The castings are crisp and clean. It has not been cleaned and is in the condition I found it. The guard has a green black patina. Please have a look at the pictures. The blades is 26 ¾ inches (68 cm) in length with the sword having an overall length of 31 ¾ inches (80.5 cm). The blade has a dark gray to black patina with minor tiny nicks in the cutting edge that are barely visible but can be felt with the fingers. T are two small marks on the ricasso that I think are proof marks, but I canâe(tm)t read them. Low beginning bid with no reserve.
