NEW ITEMS LISTED ON A REGULAR BASIS. Description: A French silver snuff box. The upper and lower faces take on the appearance of having been made from 18 th century medals. One face is in the design of a painting by Lavy whilst the other is of Napoleon Bonaparte whilst Primus Consul – Anno VIII. The inscription on the opposite side states"XII Munitissimus Oppidis Una Die Ad Deditionem Coactis" in other words ‘12 strong places compelled to surrender in one day’, at the base it states, ‘Republica Cisalpina Restituta’ – ‘Cisalpine Republic Restored’. On the sides that are ‘ridged’ is the words D’ Argent the French for ‘of silver’; this appearing on the ridge closest to the side with the picture by Lavy. The two halves screw together.
