DETAILS A magnificent French art deco chandelier produced by the world-renowned cameo art glassmaker Jean Noverdy at his Dijon studio. The chandelier dates from the 1920's and is remarkable as it is in absolutely perfect condition. Comprising a white frosted central vasque and three matching outer tulip lights, all of the glass is extremely thick moulded pate de verre, with a beautiful raised patterning of berries and leaves on the outside of the glass. The outside edge of the vasque is signed "NOVERDY FRANCE DÉPOSÉ", and although the outer tulip lights are not signed, the glass is clearly all original and matching, and all the work of Noverdy. During the early years of the Twentieth Century Jean Noverdy studied and worked at the Muller Frerès factory at Luneville, France. He subsequently opened his own glass studio in Dijon, and during the 1920's he specialised in cameo art glass production at the height of the art deco movement. He produced at the same time as Daum, Schneider and Degué, and the quality and design of his art glass have made his name world-renowned. The supporting bronze frame of the chandelier is also the original piece, with the beautiful arms connecting the tulip lights to the vasque likewise decorated with berries and leaves. I have included close-up photographs that show the intricate detail in the design of the bronze frame. The chandelier is suspended by its original link chain and large bronze ceiling rose. T are three light fittings above the central vasque, and one inside each of the tulips, all of which take standard bayonet light bulbs. When lit the raised patterning on the outside of the glass really does look magnificent, and it is this quality and incredible effect that have rightly made Noverdy a world famous name in art deco glass production. A truly beautiful and all original French art deco chandelier in remarkable condition that will be a rare addition to any home. The glass pieces have no damage whatsoever. The bronze frame has only the usual signs of ageing consistent with a 1920's art deco chandelier, but in my view this vintage patina simply adds to the overall appeal. I never clean or polish antique and vintage items and leave this decision to the buyer. Electrical items should always be checked and installed by a qualified electrician.
