FRENCH BAYONET AND SCABBARD 1878 This is a French bayonet and scabbard marked 1878 and in excellent condition. T are a few very lightly pitted spots on the blade near the hilt that would polish out with very little trouble. The scabbard has light surface rust which would also come out with a little steel wool and oil. I know collectors want items in the original state so I have not done the above mentioned cleaning, but they would clean up to pristine if done. The top of the blade is inscribed MRE D'ARMES DE ST ETIENNE 8 BRE 1878 . The number on the scabbard is FG 46034 and on the bayonet N 87684. T are other stamps and marks on the bayonet that are hard to make out but if you are interested, email me and I'll try to take a clear picture of them. The overall length is 26 inches and the blade is 20 1/2 inches.
