This is for a fabulous French brass Gunnery Sector Rule from the early 1700s. Is a fabulous example and for its age it is pristine. It is marked with the makers name Grilliet of Paris. It has scales for line of equal parts, polygons, line of chords, metals, weights of shot and gun calibre. Unlike English sectors, which were used for general calculation, the French ones were generally intended for gunnery calculations. It is hinged and has its original brass pins to hold it together when closed and keep it aligned. It is a top quality sector with thick gauge brass and fine markings. It is in absolute excellent condition with no damage to it anywhere and the markings beautifully clear.
