This is for a lovely pristine set of old French Victorian brass hand held postal letter scales. The pendulum plate is pierced with an ornate decoration underneath and the quarter circle is clearly marked. The brass is marked with the French makers initials N.B for Narcisse Briais which was used from 1876 and it is also marked 'Depose'. They are designed so a letter is placed into the metal clip and pulls the pointer around to the weight. They are in A1 excellent condition with no damage and a lovely rich unpolished patina. The scales measure 135mm (5.25") long by 85mm (3.25") across.
