Turn of the Century French Carriage Clock with Keyand Leather Box This auction is for an early 20th century French Brass Cased Carriage Clock. This gorgeous antique time piece is in working condition. This beautiful clock is an enthusiasts' dream which has survived nearly a century magically. This desktop conversation piece would make a wonderful addition to a horologists' collection or a gift for a loved one with an interest in antiques. As you can see from the photos, an identical looking clock was in a 1998 Auction for between $700 and $850 and that was without the box and without the key. The clock in the Auction book is dated 1918 so we can only assume it is the same approximate time. The dimensions of this beauty are: The leather case is 5 1/2 " tall, 4" wide, and 3 1/2" deep. The clock itself is 4 1/2" tall or 5 1/2" with the handle up, 3 1/4" wide and 2 3/4" deep. The original leather case is in very good condition considering it traveled in carriages and is nearly 100 years old by expert estimates. The hinges and lock are still in working order, the red velvet interior is still in good shape considering it has a century's worth of wear and tear. The interchangeable glass and/or leather window to hide or expose the face of the clock moves easily, and the original wind key is included. It is stamped S F R A on top, and S F (which I believe stands for "slow" and "fast" as adjustment abbreviations, but I'm not sure, any horologist will be able to say for sure.) It is also marked France on back, the face of the clock has the words "G.W. Saxby" and " Margate " painted on it, which probably was the name of the jewelry store or clock store who sold it originally. The Roman Numerals are beautiful and the overall elegance and beauty of this treasure make this item a must for any antique or clock enthusiast, or someone looking to give a great gift to a loved one. It is rare to find an antique clock with the original case, glass, and key in this condition! Retail Price: $895.00 On Sale for $650.00 All Sales Final. No Refunds or Returns.
