French clock barometer and thermometer set, the square 8 day movement strikes the hours and half hours on a blue steel coiled gong with a rare rack striking system. The back plate is stamped with a trademark and patent number 299454. This patent refers to the striking system, see photo. The 7.5 inch dial is made up of 12 individual enamel placks all of which are in good condition with no chips or cracks. The hands are brass. The aneroid barometer works well as does the mercurial thermometer. The thermometer has a white glass background with engraved black numerals to facilitate easy reading of the temperature The case has a galleried top, finials, turned columns flanking the dial and applied floral decorative motifs, the dial and barometer surrounds are turned from one piece of wood and has good grain and figure. The clock thermometer and barometer are all original and fit neatly into the case. There is some evidence of a small amount of old wood worm which has been treated and does not detract the quality of the case, the pendulum has been replaced, other wise the whole is in good condition and working order. Ht 38in. Width 18in. Depth 6.25in. c1880 £450 English pounds.
