A classy French dandy cane with a good Dieppe ivory handle that sets on its thin and perfectly dressed, split bamboo shaft, with a 2- inch long ivory ferrule. Cut from a single piece of bright and flawless material, the 8- inch tall, straight and fluted handle is well carved on one side with a beautiful flower arrangement, centered by a daisy and tight bound with a ribbon. All the flowers are naturalistically rendered in high relief and with exceptionally fine detail. They are emphasized by sharp, clearly delineated edges and speak for the great skill of the executing artist. French ivory art at its best, this cane is from the 19th century. Split bamboo shafts are rarely seen they are light, very hard, remain straight and are not affected by air moisture. They were individually manufactured and exported to destinations, where normal woods suffered from the extreme weather conditions. It is a great collectable and, after more than one and a half century of age, still in mint, unused condition. Overall length 39 inches. This is one of six wonderful 19th Century canes we acquired from the Canes Through the Ages Auction held by the Monek Family. If you have any questions please email us. Thank you!
