DESCRIPTION • MAKER: Unknown • PATTERN: Swag and Jabot • ITEM: Louie XVI partial base of table. • DISCUSSION: We are offering in this auction 2 classical, what can I call them, fragments? They were originally 1/2 of the base part of a French, Louis XVI table. But because someone was working on it, and left it in the rain, this was about all that was salvageable. They are hand carved out of chestnut. They measure 11 1/4" long, 3 5/8" wide, and 3/4" thick. When laid against a flat surface, they project 3 1/2" at their widest point. What I did with this is join the two pieces with a dowel and put hooks on the back. An upholster stapled Velco on the back, and I had a little valance made so that I could use this over a bed as a canopy. I had three wrought iron pegs. One I mounted behind the valance, then one on either side of the bed. I then draped a long fabric swag across it. You might have a better idea for this great piece, but that was mine. • MARK: None. • CONDITION: Great carving with obvious remnants of the original gesso and gilt still t Guy who left this in the rain has been justifiably booted out. • You are bidding on a used, vintage or antique item.
