It was distributed by Girard & Boitte Paris c 1895- 1905? We have not been able to locate another example for comparison and we do not see it in any of the classic and antique camera guide books. “Mon.E.Girard & A.Boitte” were Parisian distributors of cameras phonographs and other quality items in the 19 th .and early 20 th . century.This camera is a 9X12cm falling plate “detective camera”and is similar to some made by Ernemann in Germany . The main difference in this example is the beautiful brown/cordovan Morroco leather covering and some other detail differences. We believe that it is French and not of German origin. There are no markings on the camera except the serial number stamped inside the back door “P.70169” We believe the “P” that precedes the serial number stands for “Perfectionne” which is the name of the camera. The camera looks like it has had an older restoration. The optics are very nice and very clean. But we could not get the shutter to operate. The shutter issue will have to be addressed. The lens iris diaphragm does work. The leather is all original and very nice but does show some minor scuffing and use. It is really still very beautiful after all of these years. Some of the nickel trim shows some age and wear and the handle looks to be a very well done replacement in the correct color. It comes with seven plate holders that have been re-painted in flat black. This is a beautiful and obviously rare camera. It had been on display in the former owner’s collection for many years and now it is your chance to own this unique camera. Please study the photographs for a good and accurate idea of the overall condition of this camera. If you want this camera to be as perfect as it can be it will have to have a CLA to the shutter.
