With only slightly fewer illustrations than the famous special edition of this French pictorial featuring the NORMANDIE of the Compagnie Generale Transatlantique, the beautiful advertizements in this regular edition of L'ILLUSTRATION place the great liner more in the context of her times than does the special edition. Containing 80 numbered pages and featuring an artist's impression of the NORMANDIE leaving port on the cover, every aspect of the vessel's design, construction, propulsion, decoration, furnishing and inauguration is discussed (in French) and illustrated in the greatest detail. Photographs, color illustrations, black-and-white drawings and two color photo plates featuring the panelling of the grand salon and fumoir make this magazine a delight to the eye. Sepia-toned illustrations of the NORMANDIE's working spaces by Sebille and Brenet as well as a two-page centerfold spread of Brenet's watercolor of the liner about to depart on her maiden voyage add to the visual impact. In addition, t are a few pages devoted to the news of the day at the beginning of the magazine including a resume of the career and account of the recent death of Colonel T.E. Lawrence following a motorcycle accident. This item is in very good condition. If your NORMANDIE collection still doesn't include this magazine, then 's your chance!
