This gorgeous BUFFET was made in FRANCE , circa 1880 . We purchased it in the Brittany Region of France just west of Paris.The BUFFET is made of OAK . It has a rich, Deep Oak Patina. This is a FRENCH BAROQUE BRETON BUFFET . It is in very good condition. T is a lovely Carved Pediment at the top of the piece. It is quite splendid. It depicts Two Gentlemen in Period Breton Dress, leaning back upon a Ships Wheel as they play musical instruments. The Pediment is embellished with Foliate Scroll Work. The Buffet has a deeply pronounced, multi-faceted Cornice. Just below is a beautifully Carved Rosette Frieze in Guilloche Design. Block Rosettes flank it. The top of the Buffet has Double Doors. The Doors are quite simply works of art. The Doors have Cathedral Arched Center Panels. The middle of each Door is carved with a particular scene. At the left are beautiful Brittany Ladies with arms intertwined walking in a pastoral setting, under the shade of a tree. They appear to be peering over their shoulders at the gentlemen on the Right Door. The lead gentleman plays bag pipes while his two companions seem to be dancing along to his delightful tune. The intricate details of their period costume are quite spectacular. The Scene is framed by carved Scroll Work Arches. Each Door has Laural Leaf Moulding framing it. The Doors open to reveal a roomy interior with Two Custom Shelves. This is a fabulous storage area for your Fine China and Stemware. Flanking the Doors are gorgeously carved Columns. The Sides of the Buffet are incised with opulent Foliate Scroll Work. The Display Gallery is incredible! Incised Scroll Work embellishes the back with a gorgeous Spindle Turned Plate Rail. Your Fine China will display beautifully The Gallery is supported upon Two Figural Columns. The Left Column depicts a beautifully carved Breton Lady in a dignified stance. The Gentleman to the right mirrors her pose. The figures are quite exquisite! The Base of the Buffet has Two Drawers over Two Doors. The Top Edge is multi-faceted with tiers of carving. The Curving Drawer Fronts are carved with a splendid repeating Vertical Band. Acanthus Leaf Blocks flank them. The Drawers open to reveal roomy interiors perfect for storing your silver settings.
