I have a collection of over 100 swords. If you are looking for a particular pattern / model please let me know as I might have one and may be willing to list it on eBay. This is a variant (âeoePetits Montmorencyâe) French infantry officerâe(tm)s sword dating from 1789 or just after (see page 326 of âeoeSabres Portés Par Lâe(tm)Armée Française by Jean Lhoste and Patrick Resek). It would have been held by an officer seeking to limit the powers of or even overthrow the French Monarchy under Louis XVI; quite possibly an officer serving in La Fayetteâe(tm)s National Guard in the French Revolution . It is a very rare and equally very beautiful sword. T is some very feint etching on both the ricasso and spine of the blade, but it is so worn I really can not make it out. It may not even be etching although I am petty sure it is. The clearest section looks like the âeoe soleilâe face was also etched onto the blade. I think this was once a very fine looking sword. The 79.5 cm blade is in good shape but with a fair amount of patina; t is a small knick to the ricasso which may have been the strike of another blade although it is only slight damage. The blade is firm in the hilt but the hilt itself is a little loose (the backguard also has slight movement), plus the guard is a little bent inwards, has one small breakage and two repairs (as shown in the photos). The grip has some French worm holes in it which I have left alone but which can be easily filled with black silicone to hide the fact (if the buyer wants me to do it, just say). This sword has clearly had some knocks but is amazingly beautiful still none the less. Forgive the pun, but this sabre will positively shine in any collection. T is no scabbard.
