From a recent find in a Parisian private collection, is this French 18th century watercolor.The drawing, executed in pen, ink and watercolors on laid paper, depicts a bucolic scene, typical for the Louis XVIth period. A group of four young women is gathered under a scuplture of Pan, situated in a wooded surrounding. The girls are making garlands of flowers. Boys are watching them furtively from behind the trees (right).PAN : Greek god of Nature, the Wild, Shepherds, Flocks, Goats, of Mountain Wilds, and is often associated with sexuality .Authorship : the drawing is from the French school of the Louis XVIth period, attributed to Jean Henri Alexandre Pernet.JEAN HENRI ALEXANDRE PERNET (Paris ca. 1760 - Paris ca. 1793) : French watercolorartist and draftsman. He was specialised in landscapes with classical ruins and animated scenes in the Louis XVIth style. It is believed he was trained in Paris and stayed in Italy for a while.Period : ca. 1780-1785.Size : 30x22,5cm.Condition : Good. Laid down at a supporting sheet. Mounted under a simple green mat.
