French Model 1874 St. Etienne Clout 1876 Gras Sword Bayonet. This bayonet was the last of the sword type bayonets. Manufactured to fit The French model 1874 "Gras" Infantry Rifle. The blade is steel, and triangular (3 edge). This blade is marked on the back edge: I believe it says; " Mre d'Olumes de St Etienne Clout 1876" The writing is clear, however it is in old script and difficult to read. Total length of Sword is 25-1/2". The blade measures 20-1/2". In the scabbard is 26". It is in very good+ original condition & 100% authentic. It shows slight aging and wear with very little rust on the guard. No rust on the blade. The serial # on the hand guard is 39888. The walnut grips and brass pommel are solid and in very good original condition. The scabbard is in great condition without any noticeable dents, serious rust, or major damage. The serial # of the scabbard is; M1592. Overall the condition is very very good for a 130 year old original piece. It does show light overall wear but no abuse. I have no knowledge of sword, just the research I did for this one. I have described it to the best of my ability.
