A spiritual treasure, worthy of the treasury of a Cathedral ! LARGE FRENCH STERLING SILVER MONSTRANCE Paris, ca. 1871 Silver: 950/1000 (Poincon Minerve) Height: 23 inches A wonderful spiritual treasure: A large, pure (and partially gold-plated) sterling silver (with hallmarks!) Monstrance, a masterpiece of the famous Parisian gold- and silversmith Paul Brunet (13, rue de Grenelle, St. Germain/Paris) with many fine details: Seven serene faces of winged cherubs (angels, putti), four of them surrounding the Monstrance window in filigree clouds, two flanking the holder. Symbols of the Eucharist, wheat and wine grapes at the holder. A golden lamb on the book of the seven seals of Revelations at the foot. A majestic cross on top. The Window section surrounded by fine sunrays. The window section is gold-plated! The Monstrance bears two hallmarks, the poincon d'argent (silver quality hallmark) "Minerve" in an octagonal field, as it was in use between 1838 and 1914, certifying that it is made of the finest silver available (950:1000), purer than sterling silver (925:1000). (Only the foot might be of a lesser purity) It also bears the maker's mark (poincon d'maitre) of Paul Brunet (FAVIB). On the foot engraved is the name of the donors: OEUVRE DES TABERNACLES, a group of wealthy Parisians who donated sacred vessels to Parisian Churches which were looted by the German invaders during the Franco-Prussian war 1870. Bid with confidence, the authenticity is guaranteed. Good luck and God bless you!
