Pastoral French Tapestry After Daniel Ridgway Knight 1839-1924 This was purchased at an estate sale and may be a firescreen. The setting is oak but I have seen photos of similar panels removed and framed side-by-side which would be a wonderful option with this tapestry, however, it is lovely as is. I have no idea how old it is and it could use a good cleaning. At the bottom of each panel is "d'Apres Ridgway Knight" and the back of each screen is covered with gray cardboard paper. You will see some spots in the photo but they look like they could be cleaned but this cannot be guaranteed. The panel is easily opened and closed however it is missing the nail in the top hinge. The panel is "after" the work of Daniel Ridgway Knight who was born in Philadephia in 1839 and attended the prestigous Pennsylvania Academy of the Arts with Mary Cassatt and Thomas Eakins. He sailed for France in 1861 and enrolled in the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and after a brief visit in the US 1864-1871 he returned to France where he lived for the rest of his life. 3 ft 6 1/2 in. x 3 ft. 7/8 in
