Three beautiful serving spoons in the French Thread pattern (also called the Fiddle Thread or Plain Thread pattern). They are in wonderful condition. The spoons are either coin or sterling but since they are not marked, I presume they are coin. The backs are marked G. Brown. This is not a common maker, in fact comprehensive research has produced no information. T was a silversmith named George Brown who worked in Barnesville, OH circa 1830 but I cannot say these pieces are his. These are uncommon pieces. They have that wonderful color that early coin has, yet they have some heft because they are serving pieces. The pattern is quite nice, crisp and sharp. It is simple and would complement any of the Thread style patterns. The bowls are in nice shape, t are no dents and only normal use marks for spoons more than 100 years old and quite possibly 200 years old. The bevels on the bowls of these spoons are particularly well preserved. They have been recently polished (by hand) and are only lightly tarnished. Each is monogrammed with the letters RMW . They are 8" long and the total weight is 6-1/8 ounces. Please note my opening price is slightly less than the scrap value of the silver. T is no reserve. Buying collectible silver flatware at or near scrap value is an outstanding investment. Got a relative who collects? Make these a gift! This read more
