Up for auction is a nicely carved FROG fetish by Zuni Pueblo artisan Ricky Laahty. This finely-detailed, realistic-looking piece measures about 1&3/4 by 1 inches and is about 3/4 inch high. It is carved from jasper. The artist has signed and dated the piece on the bottom. This is a Native American hand-carved item and comes from the Zuni Pueblo in northern New Mexico. In Zuni tradition, each animal is believed to have innt powers or qualities that may aid the owner of a fetish carved in the image of that animal.
