This nice desk set is neither Roycroft nor Dirk Van Erp nor Harry Dixon, of that I'm sure. While I'm not sure who made this wonderful seven-piece desk set, they were very good metalsmiths and with a wonderful eye for design. The work has a strong stylistic similarity to Carence Crafters (Chicago), or Forest Craft Guild (Grand Rapids) or the Frost Workshop (Dayton). The design motifs include a sailing ship and a rising sun; the former is similar to that shown in Carence Crafters examples. Rivet work is similar to that shown by Forest Craft Guild. Heavy gauge metal, either brass or copper, and in original, untouched grungy patina. There are traces of a green or verdigris original color on the low points of the design and the extent to which it is present varies from piece to piece. A couple of pieces are stamped with a mark that says: W & W Holyoke Mass -- I assume this was the retailer for the manufacturer but, again, don't know. There's a wealth of information about these metal arts and crafts creators on the 1910metal dot com website. Approximate measurements: Pen tray and inkwell holder (NO inkwell, sorry) is 12" x 3-1/2", paperclip is 4" x 1-1/2", letter knife is 7" and the four blotter corners are 4" on each of the two exterior edges.
