DESCRIPTION: This is a nice FUCHI and KASHIRA set, made of SHAKUDO, an alloy of copper and gold with a raven black patina, for a japanese KATANA or a WAKIZASHI size.
The ground is deeply incised and decorated in IROE TAKAZOGAN a high relief inlay, with accurate details accented with incrustations of silver, SHAKUDO, and gold in the manner of the SOTEN school at HIKONE in OMI province.
The design depictes several legendary japanese figures as TOJIN, a poet who did not want his work to survive him, NARIHIRA, one of ROKKASEN the Six Great Poets, lady MURASAKI the most famous writer of the HEIAN period and subject of several paintings, and CHOKIWARO SENNIN holding his magic gourde a horse leaping out.
The design is an excellent chisel work of a quite high quality, sharply carved with accurate details in high relief modelling, carefully inlaid and finely decorated. So splendid details mangify the beauty of this design.
