Fujipet EE (ELECTRIC EYE!) 6X6 120 Vintage Toy Camera - Made in Japan! with Original Leather Case / Half-Case and Box! This is the legendary and highly coveted Showa Era Fujipet EE (Electric Eye!) 6x6 120 Vintage Toy Camera from Japan. First introduced in 1961, this classic camera, with its futuristic design will take you through a time warp, and leave you and any admirers in awe. One of the coolest and original cameras I have ever come across, the Fujipet EE lives up to its name, i.e. 'pet' in that you will want to take it wherever you go. This little gem is in great condition for its age. Its fully functioning and shows only minor cosmetic signs of use and age. The camera is built of sturdy aluminium construction, this one with the black grippy letherette finish. The camera operates with one- Aperture and shutter speed are controlled by a selenium cell. The selenium cell still house some bounce in it however I will say that I have had working and non-working selenium Fujipet EEs and I honestly can not tell any difference in shutter speed or aperture with the working ones and the non working ones. I sat with a Tokyo Toy camera Pro with one working and one not and he agreed that they both seem to fire at somewhere between 1/60 and 1/125 of a second and both seem to have the same aperture. One interesting bit of charm comes from curved film plane inside the camera designed to 'correct' the effects of the plastic lens (mainly vignetting) which give photos by the EE their highly distinctive character. This camera's Fujinar-S lens is fairly clean, with some minor artifacts with can be easily cleaned if desired. Lens focuses from 2 meters to infinity. The leaf shutter operates accurately, using no batteries, again, just a selenium cell to move a snappy variable slot aperture over the opening depending on how much light there is. Any hot shoe accessory can be placed in the Fujipets cold shoe smoothly and an external flash has been tested and operates perfectly with the sync socket at the lens barrel. As far as light leaks are concerned, I can not confirm if this EE is free of lightleaks, however in general, the this camera's back film plate fits securely on the body and do not typically leak light. All in all, the camera is in excellent shape. Also included is an unused leather Fujipet EE branded convertible case which is soft and not brittle at all, in excellent shape. It makes for an awesome and classic accessory for the camera. Also included is the original box including the original manual (JP), warranty and a little novelty card. According to MoominSean who also admins the Fujipet Camera Site , "in creating this camera, Fuji intended to open up the Japanese photography market by including women, children and beginners (not his words, rather the actual manufacturer's.) Until then, photography had generally required high-end equipment (other world markets had already introduced popular "family friendly" cameras, such as the Brownie, long before). Design was a joint venture between Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and the Konan camera laboratory. Fuji sold nearly a million Fujipets by 1963, making a domestic sales record at the time. The original selling price was 1950 yen. Sean also has the original EE manual up on his site. Its in Japanese but still interesting to look at and an interesting read if you can understand Japanese.
