This original the reprint was made from is unique in many ways.... Printed in the style of early U.S. Large Size Currency by American Bank Note Co. and just as rare!! Dated 1864, at the peak of the Civil War, two years after the National Currency Reform Act which forbade the issuance of currency by private banks!! Sumptuously engraved in black and green on buff paper with 3 ultra ornate "5" medallions, an intricate underprint composed of many more 5's interspersed with flowers, and 3 fabulous vignettes: George Washington seated (right), fashionably attired mother and daughter (left) and Union Military Encampment with Union Soldiers (center).
