Full Plate Painted Tintype Folk Art American Gothic!!

This charming old folk art painted tintype measures 9&1/8" X 7&1/8". The background has been overpainted in a slightly pebbly textured bluish grey and the rug and floor is painted in a smoother finish in shades of brown and tan. The man's shirt (chest and sleeve) has been overpainted in white, likewise the woman's lace collar and lace-trimmed sleeve. The man's collar seems also to have been color enhanced in some way. The actual photograph is a brownish tint, rather than black, and I think is what was called a chocolate tintype. According to my google research, these were introduced around 1870 and were popular through 1885 or so. I love the muted colors of this tintype, and think they give the image of these two dignified seniors more impact. The photograph itself is clear, and the features of this sweet couple are well-defined. Please note that the color is not as washed out as it looks in the pics, which were taken in bright sunshine; the fourth picture (head and shoulder closeup of the man) shows the true color of the tintype best). T are a few bends, but these are mostly around the edges. Someone has written or etched on the back the number "1345", and what looks like 3 large zeros. This has actually caused an indentation in the metal that shows on the woman's chest; however this can only be seen when the tintype is held at an angle. T is no flaking to the photo, but (and again this can only be seen when held at an angle) t is some light crazing on the lower portion of the photo. These are all the defects I can see. Minor flaws aside, this is a wonderful example of the painted tintype. Please email with any questions; I'll respond within 24 hours.
