Finally: correct early World War II brass wingnuts and "L" bolts for the M1917 ammunition crates. These are correctly threaded so you can use them with your vintage hardware! Many of us have wooden M1 Garand, .45 colt pistol, or .50 caliber ammo boxes that are missing the wing nuts, or have rusted bolts, or both. is your chance to secure that wood box lid correctly!
You get six brass wingnuts, six stainless steel bolts, and 6 small horseshoe tacks to install the bolts. The replica wingnuts were cast from an original in my collection. Its a perfect match. Or should I say "imperfect" match. In one of the photos, you can see the variations in the originals. None of them is perfect. The originals were made roughly, and all bear slight imperfections. Mine match the originals in that regard. (The ammo crate and the originals in the photos are not included in this auction. They are shown only for purposes of comparison.) The six new L bolts are stainless steel - won't rust ( so you wont ever have to worry about that again)- and they are the right size and diameter. You can also see some rusty original L bolts in the photos. (needless to say, those aren't included in the auction either) And best of all, the bolt and wingnut are tapped and threaded to the proper WWII thread pitch. That means that if your box is missing a few bolts, or your L bolts are still good and you just need the wingnuts, these will fit and they are interchangable with originals. Try that with the stamped, zinc plated wingnuts you find at the hardware store! 's the secret: back in WWII, these pieces were threaded with a pitch of 26 TPI. Today, that is an obsolete thread pitch. You can't find 26 TPI taps and dies at the hardware store anymore. So I had a tool maker custom fabricate the taps and dies used on these wingnuts and bolts. I drill, tap, and thread each one myself. I've had some happy customers report that these new wingnuts fit their vintage boxes perfectly! Now they have their crates bouncing around in their jeep, deuce-and-a-half, or halftrack without having to worry about a lid shaking loose! Reminder: you are buying one set of 6 wingnuts, 6 bolts and 6 horsehoe tacks - enough to repair or replace the fittings on one box. I'm the only guy making these proper wingnuts and bolts. Get 'em before they're all gone. The shipping in the US will be a flat $2.00. International bidders will pay higher shipping costs - typically $11.00 via USPS Global Priority. Thanks very much.
