This violin I have owned for many, many years. I bought it from a violinist in Austria about 20 years ago. At that time I bought every klotz violin that I could find. The violinist told me that the original label was ruined when he tried to clean it and make it more readable. Years later a repairman put in a hand made label reading Mathias Klotz Mittinwald. The violinist said it had been in his family 70 years and he played it for me before I bought it.If you look closely at the photos of the scroll and the ribs , you will see that these areas show sings of age and wear that I have never seen on another violin. This baby is old and it has been played ALOT. Just a few repaired cracks extending from the right F hole and a couple repaired rib cracks.Back neck and scroll look O K. I can not swear that this is a klotz.It may or may not be one,but it is really old and would look great in any collection The violin is very playable but is being sold for restoration with no refunds or repairs. Ask questions before you bid. The violin will be shipped in an old case for protection. Shipping for international bidders is $65.00 and this includes insurance.
