PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD #2548 X42 MAIL STORAGE CAR Up for Sale is a Funaro & Camerlengo #8260 "An alternative to brass", PRR X42 #2548 built & delivered in 1950. Ten, X42, Sixty Five Foot, Double Door cars were built by the Pennsy, Numbers 2540-2549. They were all lettered with Circle Keystone Lettering except One car which was lettered in Gold Passenger Striping. The cars were used exclusively for hauling Mail around the Country and could been seen on any Railroad’s Passenger consist as a “Head End” car, in the US , “Coast to Coast” ! . All X42 Mail cars ran into Penn Central being assigned to Freight use in the early 1960’s. Many hours were invested in building this prototypically correct, HO Scale Model. F&C did a limited run of these kits for the PRRT&HS Meet last May. They sold out in one day and have not been listed on the F&C website, since they were a limited Show run. The model was custom built, painted and lettered by me. I made many additions, including scratch built parts to make a more correct looking and durable running model. A replacement Apex roof walk and end walks, were added. “A-Line” metal steps replace the brittle resin castings, The Thin, Breakable Resin Door steps were replaced with scratch built metal parts, the resin ladders were also replaced with correct rung spacing, more detailed plastic parts.
