6 Lithographs by Gaetano Dura c. 1830's Neapolitan Folk Costumes Image Size - Approx. 3 1/2" x 5" Framed Size - 6 5/8" x 8" Artist History: Gaetano Dura (1805 Cassano Jonio/Cosenza - 1878 Naples) was a very well known Neapolitan lithographer, watercolor artist and poet. As a young man he came to Naples where he became a pupil of Giuseppe Cammarano and soon a popular artist, known for his Neapolitan folk scenes. In 1835, together with F. Gatti, he founded a lithographic institute. There he went on to produce numerous lithographs with Neapolitan motifs. Gaetano Dura was also a renowned dramatist and actor. These amazing lithographs were found in an antique shop and are now being offered for auction. They were framed in the early to mid 1900's and are all still sealed. They have not been examined by an art expert and I am not one. I will describe them as I see them. Please examine the pictures closely and submit your questions before bidding. After researching lithograph styles, I am guessing that these are stone lithographs and are hand painted/colored, however, I cannot guarantee that they are. They are exquisitely detailed and the colors are clear and vivid. The paper is yellowed with age and are in good shape except for the one of the Venditore which has some spots. I have found examples of Gaetano Dura's lithographs on read more
