Up for sale today is a small transforming toy of Scott Bernard's Alpha Fighter from the TV series Robotech. It was issued in 1985 by Gakken toys. Robotech was an editing together of three Japanese TV shows: Macross, Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada. While the distinct stories were meshed together to create a larger continuity, Robotech is considered to be an excellent introduction of anime to American audiences since for the most part, the pacing of the stories and the characters were not altered from their original Japanese versions and the episodes were not chopped up like was done with previous Japanese animated shows. In the New Generation of Robotech, Scott Bernard is the lone survivor of a Robotech Expeditionary Force sent to Earth to take it back from an invading alien species known as the Invid. He works to complete his mission, which is the destruction of the Invid center core known as Reflex Point. Along the way, he recruits a team of freedom fighters to help in his quest. The Invid are inhuman creatures, looking more like giant worms or insects that look maybe only slightly humanoid. Their ground forces on Earth consist of giant walking mecha/battle suit known as Shock Troopers, equipped with twin blaster cannons.
