Galaga Nearly 27 years ago, in 1981 , Bally Midway liscencedthe rights to Namco's legendary arcade masterpiece, Galaga . And the young arcade world rejoiced. While not quite the pop culture phenomenon that Pac-Man was, to thousands of arcade goers Galaga stands tall as the greatest arcade game of the early 80's. It's hypnotic game play outshines even games released years later. Galaga also, along with Pac-Man , was the first arcade game to make one million dollars. This blockbuster juggernaut is still highly sought after by collectors, and no gameroom is really complete without one. Wave after wave of space bugs assault you from all directions. Piloting a starfighter, it is your duty to blast them all out of the stars. Each stage begins with the bugs flying in from the sides and top of the screen to assume a formation from which they will perpetuate a relentless assault. The more waves you destoy the faster and shiftier the bugs become. Some bugs will morph into three different bugs. The big green ones use a tractor beam to ensnare your star fighter . It'll take two shots to destroy one of these. Or you could let your ship be taken hostage, and then destroy the captor to get your ship back. If you take this course of action, you will not only get your ship back, but it will link to your current ship, giving you double fire power! In total, t are 255 waves to destroy. This is extremely difficult to accomplish, if not nigh impossible. The bugs get so fast and suicidal, that you need some amazing hand eye coordination, along with a ton of luck to get through all 255 waves. If you somehow defeat all 255 waves, the next level is Stage 0. At this point the game will freeze. T are also bonus levels to boost your score. In fact, Galaga was the first arcade game to have bonus levels. Galaga still to this day remains a blast to play. And this 'Holy Grail' arcade game is just a bid away.
