"Big and Beautiful"!!!... These are the only two words that I can think of to describe this large... stunning... Cameo Glass Lamp. This has to be one of the most "heart-stopping" pieces of art glass we've had to offer since???... I can't remember when!!!... The Cameo Glass Vases are becoming extremely hard to find anymore... and the Lamps are just about impossible. I'm going to do my very best to describe for you this gorgeous LAMP ... and then rely on Patty's fine photos to... "tell the rest of the story"!!... First off let's look at the size. Assembled the Lamp stands just about 16 inches tall with the Shade on. The Base itself stands 10 inches tall... and that's not counting the light fixture or the light bulb. This Base is 4 ¼ inches across the bottom... and this bottom area is hand ground. It's hard to measure... but I'd say the base is about 8 inches wide at it's widest part of the "Potbelly". The Shade is just a bit over 11 and ½ inches across the bottom... and about 6 ½ inches tall. The Shade also has that super nice "hand ground" bottom rim. I've looked this "art glass" beauty over from "stem-to-stern"... and all parts appear to be in excellent condition... I can find no blemishes anyw that I might point out. The on-off switch is on the cord... which is about 65 inches long. The Lamp has two light bulbs... and they are included. One is for lighting the top portion of the Lamp... and the other is down inside the Base. This bulb illuminates the base so you can enjoy all of the art work on it's outer surface. T are three small screws to "snug" the light fixture to the Base... and three more that secure the Shade to the metal fixture itself. Both the base and the Shade have a "Mat" finish. Usually referred to as "Satin Glass"... or "Frosted Glass" by collectors. The bottom of the Base starts off in a "earthy" almost black Green glass color... and changes into a deep Honey Amber as we move up the sides. The "Potbelly" style of the Base is the perfect "stage" on which to parade the glass worker's art work. we see a landscape of vegetation... waterways... and bold trees silhouetted against a deep Honey Amber sky. The Shade "mirrors" the Base... in both glass colors... and the abundance of artistic decorations. But the glass workers have added an additional color. Various shades of blue highlight the waterways and the distant mountains. The Shade also depicts two Deer standing on a strip of land that juts out into the waterway. And last but not least... in that deep amber sky we find that stylized "Galle" mark. All of the art work... especially the large trees... are raised above the surface of the body glass... in a "Cameo" fashion... on both the Lamp Shade and the Base. It's almost as if the background was carved away... leaving just the art work standing out on the surface... and silhouetted against that backdrop of a warm Honey Amber "sky". This is not only inviting to the eye... but tantalizing to the touch!!!... Bold in design... robust in stature... alive with the wonders of nature... unsurpassed workmanship... and a treasure forever!!!... Just a delightful piece of art glass... and I might add... one with a very practical function.
