Just a gorgeous piece of Murano to add to yourcollection! 14"tall 7"deep 5"wide The factory of Gambaro & Poggi is located on the Murano island in the Venetian lagoon. MarioGambaro and Bruno Poggi were born and raised in Murano. Since they were little they were around the glass factories were they started working and soon became distinguished for their ability. Their first jobs were with famous glass masters such as Archimede Seguso and Alfredo Barbini and in important factories such as Seguso Vetri d'Arte, V. Nanson, and Barovier & Toso. In 1974 when both masters felt secure of their work and experience they decided to open their own glass factory, Vetreria Artistica Gambaro & Poggi. The factory becomes soon known for its high quality and refined glass pieces that were created using the traditional techniques but in new forms and shapes. Gambaro & Poggi now produce around 1300 articles in 85 different colors. The production consists of cups, vases, plates, animal figures, candleholders, table lamps, carafes, glasses, sculptures and more. All the products are produced upon request and are authenticated by a signature of the glass factory and have a label certifying the quality and provenance of each piece. The high standards of the masters of the Vetreria Artistica Gambaro & Poggi enables them to work with artists, designers, architects, and art galleries all over the world Murano glass and crystal hardly need any special introduction. Murano is a small island close to Venice, to which all glass making was moved from Venice in 1291, to avoid fire hazards. According to archeological findings, the Venetians were making glass works since the moment of their settlement on the islands of the lagoon, w their escaped from barbarians during the late period of the Roman Empire. Written evidences of Venetian glass making date back to the 10th century, and in the 13th century a glass making guild existed in Venice. Murano was the place w very important innovations in glass making were made, in particular, a method of making crystal was discovered in the late 15th century. For the Venetian Republic, glass and crystal items were very important export products, highly demanded all over Europe. Productional secrets were guarded very strictly, for example glass makers were not allowed to leave the Venetian State under the threat of death penalty. After certain downfall in 17th and 18th centuries due to strong competition from Bohemia and other places, starting from mid-19th century the glass making school of Murano saw its re-birth again, thanks to the growing demand for antiquities. The 20th century was a new turning point in the history of Murano. The arrival of artists, designers, and architects has changed the production and the consideration of this craft. Glass blowers are now recognized as artists and work side by side with visionaries to create new forms and objects.
