Extremely Rare GAR Type 3 membership medal converted to Past Post Commanders Officer Medal. Veteran used flag ribbon instead of plain blue for Post Offiicer.. The rank strap has had the pin and ribbon bar removed and a single tension bar brazed to center of rank bar to hold to ribbon. Dop is correct early high relief with patent date and number on bottom point of star. Very nice of example of Post Officers medal before GAR had issued regulations to enable manufacture of standard parts used later. Medal and ribbon uncleaned and in very nice condition.
