Garth Williams. Written instructions to the artist from E. B. White and original preliminary drawings of the schooner The Wasp for Stuart Little, 1945. This group contains the following: A two-page Autograph Letter Signed by E. B. White and addressed to Garth Williams, dated 14 April [1945], on two sheets of yellow paper, with central horizontal folds; includes three printed images of schooners and sloops, pasted to the second page. Spots (probably coffee) and a partial coffee ring to the first page. [and:] Original pencil drawings of schooners by Garth Williams. Five large sheets measuring 15.875 x 12 inches, all initialed by Williams; and one piece of tracing paper measuring approximately 8.5 x 10 inches, with ragged edges, presumably torn by the artist, signed in full by Williams. One drawing quite faint, all with shallow folds. All very good or better.Also included with this group is a small piece of notepaper with a checklist of helpful notes for the artist, such as "Schooners & sloops," "Time is 1930," "5th Avenue bus should be older model with rear platform & stairs in the rear," and "Mr & Mrs Little - look too much alike."
