Actual Broadcast Recording (Unscoped Aircheck)Station: KEWB - Oakland, California & KNX - Los Angeles, California DJ: Gary Owens (of Laugh In Fame) & Bob Crane (of Hogan's Heroes Fame) RIR #193Length: 75 minutes (digitally remastered and placed on CD at our studios at Rock-it Radio This disk captures two great talents early in their career. Gary Owens would go on to become the top afternoon DJ on Middle-of-the-Road KMPC Los Angeles in the latter 60's and 70's. He was also the announcer on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (remember him standing in front of the microphone with his hand over one ear?). In 1960, he was a Top 40 jock in the San Francisco Bay area, and his wit and timing was already top notch. This marvelously entertaining half-hour aircheck includes a couple of hysterical skits -- a parody of a radio sky traffic reporter and an "audition" for a job at KEWB. You gotta hear it to believe it. The second portion of the disc captures future Hogan's Heroes star Bob Crane as a morning radio dj in Los Angeles 1958. He is irreverant, interrupting the commercials with drop-ins and wisecracks. The music was geared to the adult listening audience, but this is a highly entertaining aircheck. is a playlist of what you wll hear from this actual broadcast recordings of what would become two Hollywood Greats.
