Stunning Owl Kachina by award winning carver- Gene Dawahoya! This award-winning artist is known for his finely detailed dolls and is represented in many of the top collections in the country. The details carved into this magnificent Owl Kachina (8 3/4" tall and 3" wide) are beyond words! Made from one piece of cottonwood root, this work of art truly is a museum-quality piece. Just take a look at the details in the close up photos of the feathers, carved turquoise bracelets and necklace, and the hands of "The Tracker". They are incredible! Like all of Gene's Kachinas, "The Tracker" is made from a single piece of cottonwood root. The kachina has the body of a man with a large owl head. The kachina is carved holding his left arm above his forehead "scouting" the horizon, while the other beautifully carved hand is pointing to a dear track. A quiver with his bow and arrows--which are carved as one piece with the kachina-- is hanging over his shoulder. The carved details and paint on this kachina are absolutely stunning. This piece has been the centerpiece of a private collection and is in perfect condition-- free of scratches, nicks, or cracks. It was bought from Andrews Pueblo Pottery and Art Gallery in 1996.
