Up for auction is this Very Rare Antique/Vintage " General Steam Navigation Company " Silver Pepper Pot Castor. I am not certain of its' exact age, but, it is definitely an early one. Usually you see postcards of the ships operated by this company. Seldom do items,such as this pepper pot castor, from this company come up for auction. T are tiny little nicks from use, however, it is in overall excellent condition with no major damage or repairs. It has the General Steam Navigation Company monogram "GSNC" engraved on the front ( see pictures ). The bottom is stamped "Mappin & Webb " and "C46/14". The pepper pot measures 3 1/4" in height and the base is 1 9/16" in diameter. It weighs a hefty 158 grams or almost 6 ounces. The General Steam Navigation Company operated both cargo and passenger Steamships all over the world and were based in London, England. They were founded in 1824 and operated until 1972. They were one of the oldest and most successful Steamship Companies in the world.
