L'HOMME DEBOUT A tall, deep, standing cabinet for a gentleman's clothing and haberdashery. Country French in character with a refined look, the l' homme debout has two doors divided by a drawer. L'Homme Debout Pronunciation: lôm / [deu boo] -noun French L’Homme Debout (literally translated “Standing Man”) is a tall, wardrobe cabinet that has doors on the top and bottom Huge cabinet is over 8' tall by almost 6' wide. (98" Tall X 70" W X 20" deep) It comes with a base that holds the three units. The three units fit snug together. Then there are three crowns for the top. On the right and left side there are two large doors and inside there are hooks for the men's clothing so you can hang long men's coats and trench coats. Very easy for you to add a bar so you can hang long dresses if you desire. Above each area for hanging coats there is a shelf designed for hats. In the center, there is a center door with a large shelf for a wig stand and wig. The open shelf at the TOP center is for a clock. The remainder of the center area is a stack of drawers for the gentleman's personal items. This is designed to come apart easily for transport on steamer ships or stage coach/train travel. The hardware is all original. The beveled glass is original but recently we broke the mirror on the right door and we custom ordered the double beveled mirror with the SAME arch top. It is currently being replaced by the cabinet maker - that is why the right door is not on the unit in the photographs. We will have it and will give it to you when you come to pick up the cabinet. Wood is heavy, solid and sturdy. Not wobbly. This has been lovingly in my home for the past 11 years and prior to that we purchased if from a French estate in San Francisco, CA. The crowns on top are original and also in full and complete condition. Often those are the parts that become damaged but in this case - they are as made and not restored or fixed. As is typical of these older cabinets - some 5 to 8 woods are used. The rich walnut burl and mahogany fronts and sides have hand-sawed walnut backs. The wood is so strong and dense - you cannot drive a nail into it. The drawers and cabinets are all attached with dowels and pegs and mitered corners. Close-ups of the drawers are enclosed. As are the close-ups of the detailed designs and all original hardware. There is no missing hardware. Very rare and unusual for a piece this old.We removed the center door with the two kidney shaped beveled mirrors so we could put a TV in the middle. We made this an entertainment center. In the sides, I put a stack of shelves (not there now) I did not screw or bolt them in - it was a free standing shelf and that is where my music system set. It all worked perfectly. We never drilled any holes into the cabinet. We have loved and enjoyed this in our formal living room as a major visual anchor for the room. We are removing it due to the grandkids need for the piano - they are all playing and so this item will be replaced with a Grand Piano. We have no other room whose ceiling is tall enough to accommodate this very large item. Our loss is certainly your gain. While conservative estimates have valued this piece at $12,500.00 we are willing to sell it to a good home where it will be loved and valued as we have. Please bid. There is no reserve on this item. Email us with any questions. As a former Ebay PowerSeller, I have sold thousands of items. I had a bricks and mortar store here in Napa Ca and we sold and shipped hundreds of items every week. We have a 99% perfect rating and worked swiftly to resolve any and all problems. We are reputable and honest and want our buyers to feel confident doing business with us. We have been selling on Ebay since 1998! A very long time - we have seen the ups and downs. We love Ebay and have met wonderful customers over these past 13 years.
