THE Gentleman's MagazineAND Historical Chronicle (Volume XXVI) For the YEAR M.DCC.LVI (1756) By SYLVANUS URBAN, GentLONDONPrinted for D. HENRY and R. CAVE at St JOHN'S GATE (1756) Bound in plain red library cloth with titles in gilt to spine. Measuring approx 21cm x 13.5cm x 4.5cm. The cloth is a bit grubby and marked, and has some faded patchs. Chipped to top and bottom of spine, with a large chip to centre of spine, with loss (see photo). Internally the endpapers are missing. Cracked to inner edges at endpapers, webbing is visible and boards have movement. There is a library bookplate to inside front board (War Office Library). The front fixed endpapers are a little wrinkled/marked. There is a previous owners name and date to reverse of frontis. The frontis and title page have been restuck to inner edges, and are rather grubby and marked to rear inner edges. There is some very pale staining to edges of first few leaves. Lightly grubby and foxed/browned in places (heavier to reverse of frontis and last few leaves). One page has large loss, and there are some corner chips and creases. Two maps have tears to folds. Contents are beginning to crack in a couple of places, although the majority of leaves remain reasonably firm. Numerous leaves have tiny puncture marks to inner edges.
