Are pleased to announce the re launching of the web site for antique icons & present the following Russian Icon for sale. "Joy to those who suffer" russian dating around the turn of 1700. 11 x 9 1/2 x 1 inch This is the original tempera painting on the panel & not a later painting as often happens with Russian icons. It is common to find a 19thC painting on a 18thC board that for one reason or another has lost the original version. Painted in the palette typical of the period, light brown border & olive green background together with black & salmon for the garments. No real attempt has been made to restore the icon save a re attaching of the panel at some stage. Wear & tear shown represent over 300 years of veneration & natural ageing. As an introduction to my web site I have listed other icons on UK, German & Italian Ebay. No buy it now for this auction, it will run to the end. With over 20 years experience in handling, & supplying icons to many major galleries throughout the world you can be sure that the description given is as accurate as possible of an authentic icon & fully guaranteed as such.
