This collectible is the next, of many items that will be offered over the next few months. Up for your consideration for auction is this Original "Allen Long" Cherokee Snake Mask. Born June 2nd, 1917 in the Big Cove Community of Cherokee, North Carolina, Allen Long began his carving career at a very young age, acquiring his skills from his father and carving his first mask at the age of twelve. Masks are considered strong medicine in Cherokee culture and are used in their ceremonial dances. This larger than life size mask is carved of Buckeye wood and is extremely detailed right down to the scales on the snake that rests upon the head of the mask. Certified, Genuine Handcrafted by Qualla Arts & Crafts Mutual, Inc. of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, would make this mask an awesome addition to any collection. Dimensions: 12 5/8" tall x 8 1/2" at widest point x 4 7/8" deep. Condition: The mask has an age crack only visible from the backside of the mask. It is mostly covered by the Qualla Arts tag in the photos. T is another much smaller age crack on the bottom of the mask also only visible read more
