Lady-in-Waiting Letter On Behalf of Princess Diana 10 March 1986
Buckingham Palace StationeryThis is a genuine letter dated 10 March 1986 from Hazel West, Princess Diana's Lady-in-Waiting on the Princess's behalf. The letter is typed with the greeting and ending handwritten in black pen. It appears on Buckingham Palace stationery marked "From: Lady-in-Waiting to H.R.H. the Princess of Wales."
The letter reads: "Dear Mrs. Senior, The Princess of Wales has asked me to thank you for your letter together with the pictures. Her Royal Highness was most touched by your kind thought in writing and was most grateful to you for sending the pictures. The Princess has asked me to send you her sincere thanks and best wishes. Yours sincerely, Hazel West [Mrs. George West]."
The original envelope is also included, addressed to Mrs. M Willey Senior in Loma Linda, California. It has been postmarked "London 10 MCH1986, 5-15 PM."
I am including the book "The Country Life Book of Diana Princess of Wales," which has a specific reference to Hazel West, who was apparently one of the original Ladies-in-Waiting appointed for Princess Diana in late September following her marriage to Prince Charles on 29 July 1981. "Mrs. West, the wife of Lieutenant-Colonel George West, Comptroller at the Lord Chamberlain's Office, w the Royal Wedding arrangements were made, already had some intimation of her task, but none had any actual experience of their new work."
"A Lady-in-Waiting has to accompany the Princess on official duties and act as companion and secretary on a rota system. It is hard, but rewarding work, and anyone appointed becomes a close friend of a member of the Family. The pay is nominal, but the lifestyle attractive, and they live outside the Palace"...A Lady-in-Waiting has an important role to play for she is the contact between the Princess and the public, and all too often the success or failure of an occasion depends on her organization." The book has GREAT detail and many photos. A wonderful resource.
The letter is in PRISTINE condition. The book in good used condition with slipcover. T is one hole on the back of the slipcover but no other defects.Terms: PayPal accepted (preferred), Check or Money Order/Cashier's Check. High bidder should contact me to identify form of payment.
