Asian Antiques, ChineseGenuine Ming DynastyPlate (Dish) Decorated Underglaze Cobalt BlueRadiating Circle and Scrolling TendrilsProvincial Porcelaneous Stoneware15th C., 7 inches wide A very nice example of a heavy porcelaneous stoneware dish from the Chinese Ming Dynasty most likely intended for export. The center is a spiraling circle surrounded by scrolling tendrils decorated in underglaze cobalt blue. The overglaze is a robin's egg blue and is thick enough that it is heavily crackled throughout. The dish is 7 inches (18 cm) in diameter and 1 inch (2.5 cm) in height. The plate is not oblong as it appears in the scanned image of the bottom. The scan of the top shows the truer circular shape. Despite the heavy and sturdy body and provincial style of decoration the piece is very expressive and exhibits great vitality. This piece is absolutely genuine and is not a modern reproduction. The plate is in very good condition and does not have any cracks or chips. However, the glaze has pulled back from the rim during firing, exposing little patches of body, resulting in "mouse nips". T are some surface scratches and wear marks, and the footrim appears to have been ground - quite possibly after the piece was fired, since it appears stained with age. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Returns: In same condition, will be refunded.
