They have a nice patina from age which we will leave in tact! The Zuni are deeply traditional people who have lived by irrigated agriculture and now by the sale of traditional crafts. Their location is relatively isolated, but they welcome respectful tourists. Carved stone animal fetishes, jewelry, needlepoint, petitpoint and pottery are popular items. Many Zuni became master silversmiths and perfected the skill of stone cutting and inlay. They found using less of a stone and by cutting stones individually and setting them to fit close together they were able to make intricate designs in unique patterns. Another technique they master is petitpoint. Small turquoise stones are cut and shaped rounded at one end and pointed at the other in other words a small teardrop shaped stoned. In needlepoint tiny thin stones with pointed ends are set side by side In each technique the stones are set close to one another and side by side. These techniques are used in creating necklaces, bracelets and rings. The result is an intricate and highly sought after work of art! This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION . For the Southwestern Native Americans, pawn refers to the practice of converting artwork and possessions into income for life's necessities. These items often serve as the family "reserve" or "emergency" fund. In times of need, jewelry and other items of value can be easily used as security with an authorized trader (pawned) for cash to meet the current crisis. In other cases, when the elders of the family die, the deceased's items might be pawned, and the money divided up within the family. Pawn is also used by many Native Americans in the same way that a safety deposit box would be used. The jewelry is "pawned" for safe keeping in between religious ceremonies or other special occasions. The lender keeps it for the agreed amount of time, and if the loan or pawn fees are not paid off by the agreed date, the pawn shop or trader is authorized to sell the jewelry. If jewelry is not redeemed by its owner by the expiration date, the piece is referred to as Dead Pawn. Because much of the pawned merchandise is of real day-to-day value in the owner's life, the percentage of pawn that goes unredeemed is quite small, making items of dead pawn among the most highly valued and sought after Native American artifacts to be found on the market today. Old Pawn refers to a piece that was made prior to 1970. What you NEED TO KNO...
