George Papp, SUPERBOY #89 , ORIGINAL ART FOR PAGE 4, 1961 . This is the original final, published art by George Papp in india ink on heavyweight paper for page 4 of Chapter 2 of the important Superboy’s Big Brother story in issue #89 (June 1961) of the DC comic book featuring tales of Superman as a boy. This page features Superboy and Mon-El in civilian guise with Lana Lang. This story introduced Mon-El (real name Lar Gand) who ended the story being sent to the Phantom Zone, from which he later emerged to play a vital role in The Legion of Super-Heroes. Comics Magazine Code Authority stamp dated Jan 17 1961 appears on the back; issue number is written in top margin and page number at bottom right. 17" x 13" art image on 20 1/2" x 14" sheet. Paper has darkened slightly with age: VERY FINE condition. (Note: the picture below shows minor misalignment in panels 3 and 4; this is a result of our scanning and does not appear in the original art) .
