GEOGRAPHY RECTIFIED. Robert Morden. 2 ndEdition 1688 The exterior condition of the book is poor. It was obviously, at some point in the 17th century, the home atlas of at least three (young ?) persons who have inscribed their names in various places on the fly pages and margins of the introduction. The exterior covers and spine show signs of heavy wear but are attached and function to keep the book together. There are no wordings or inscriptions on them.The title page, in red and black, has a small tear from right to left with no loss of print and shows it to be a second edition of 1688. Page 77: Small piece missing from bottom. No loss of print. Page 190 : Loose but attached at top of spine. Pages 217 / 221: Slight tear bottom of page next to spine. No loss of text. Page 239: Slight tear mid page. No loss of text. Page 243 : Slight tear bottom of page. No loss of text. Pages 305 / 320 appear to be missing. However there is no obvious gap in the binding and there are (detailed below) anomalies in the page numbers later on. The pages then run in sequence until 495 when the numbering reverts to 486 !! The text footers are correct so it would appear to be a simple printer’s error (?) Page 551 : Bottom right piece missing. No loss of text. Pages 590 / 596 are present and attached but are ‘tatty’ and show signs of wear and are missing small pieces with a few words of text missing close to the spine. All 76 maps are present and, generally, in good condition but there are also two extra not included in the catalogue at the front of the book. These are Bermuda, between 544 and 545 and Armenia,Georgia Comania on 342. The double globe map of the world is present but detached from the spine and held in place by a, very old, pin! A truly rare and fascinating piece of history which,despite its condition,can only appreciate in value. The option remains for a purchaser to have the book rebound or split for the maps; some of which have fetched excellent prices.
